The Law Office of Keith Richard Frederick (KRF) is a general law practice with a focus on business, tax and intellectual property law. KRF provides virtual counsel to individuals and small businesses throughout California and "live" representation in Southern California, although arrangements can be made for live representation in other parts of California.

Due to travel requirements, it is often difficult to arrange in-person consultations with KRF on short notice. For those who require regular in-person consultations, another law practice would be a better fit. Also, for those who routinely need immediate unscheduled contact by telephone, another law practice would be a better option.

There are currently two agreements available for receiving counsel from KRF:
  1. The Limited Scope Virtual Counsel Agreement.
  2. The KRF Attorney-Client Agreement.
OPTION 1 : Limited Scope Virtual Counsel

In situations where a client has a particular limited need that can be handled virtually, a limited scope virtual counsel agreement may be used. In these cases, the client only has to pay a one-time fixed fee rather than monthly fixed fees and/or hourly fees. Fee information can be found in the fee information section.

Some of the areas where limited scope counsel is available include:
  • Preparation of California Entity (LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, Partnership) Formation Documents.
  • Preparation of Copyright Registration Form.
  • Preparation of Trademark Registration Form (California and Federal).
  • Trademark Search & Legal Opinion on the viability of the proposed mark.
  • Preparation of Website Privacy Policy.
  • Preparation of Website Usage Agreement.
  • Preparation of 501(c)(3) Application.
  • Preparation of Trust Documents.
This list is not necessarily exhaustive, and the list may change at any time. The fee section will have the most up-to-date list. Not all particular needs are suitable for limited scope counsel. Please contact KRF if you have questions.

Virtual counsel is provided remotely by KRF. Communication and information exchange is via 1) the Control Panel, 2) electronic mail, 3) facsimile or 4) postal mail. Telephone communication is also permitted. However, please note that a client must normally leave a message, and then KRF will return the call when available. It is difficult to reach KRF by telephone unless the telephone call is scheduled ahead of time.
OPTION 2 : KRF Attorney-Client Agreement

The KRF Attorney-Client Agreement contains a hybrid fee schedule that separates services by whether they are virtual or non-virtual. All virtual services are available to the client for a fixed monthly fee, while the non-virtual services are provided based on hourly billing. This separation greatly reduces the cost of obtaining legal counsel as the client is only required to pay hourly fees for in-person representation and meetings.

For the ongoing fixed monthly fee, clients may receive the following virtual counsel:
  • Legal Research.
  • Preparation of Legal Opinions.
  • Preparation of Briefs.
  • Pleadings Preparation.
  • Tax Consultation and Return Preparation.
  • Preparation of legal documents and government forms such as copyright registration and trademark registration forms.
  • Communications with opposing counsel.
  • Communications with opposing parties (when opposing counsel does not exist).
  • Review and preparation of legal agreements, policies and other operational legal documents.
  • Estate planning and asset protection consultation, including preparation of trust documents.
  • General legal consultation.

So long as a client is receiving counsel virtually, all services are provided remotely by KRF, and communication and information interchange is done either online via the Control Panel, or by fax/post/telephone.

Under the KRF Attorney-Client Agreement, clients may also receive non-virtual services such as, but not limited to, in-person meetings with KRF and representation in court by KRF. Such representation is billed hourly and requires that a retainer be paid.
