Control Panel Brief Documentation
Below is a short guide to using the Control Panel. Due to the more personal nature of KRF | LAW, the best recommendation is to simply ask for help whenever you need it. Experimentation is also a good way to learn about the Control Panel.
Quick Note: To access the Counsel Module, log into the Control Panel, and then select Counsel from the drop-down menu and click GO.
I. Logging into the Control Panel

The only valid login point for the Control Panel is at the KRF | LAW home page: www.krflaw.com.

Do not use links in e-mails - those could be fraudulent links sent by phishers.

To log into the panel, you will need your E-Mail and Password. PASSWORDS ARE CASE SENSITIVE. You will have at least four attempts to log in before the system makes you wait several hours before trying again. If you do not remember your password then use the Password Reset function on the Login Assistance page. If that does not work then contact KRF.

MAIN ACCOUNT LEVEL MENU:

II. My Settings

The My Settings Section allows you to change your E-Mail (which is your login identity) and your Password. Note, your E-Mail must be unique with respect to all other KRF | LAW users. Passwords must have:
  1. At least six (6) characters.
  2. At least one upper case AND at least one lower case letter.
  3. At least one number OR one allowable punctuation, like $ : ;.
In this section, you may also delete your Identity. This is the only way to remove your E-Mail from the system. Deleting your identity will also remove you from any associated Accounts. Once an E-Mail has been deleted (or changed) it is free to be used for another Identity.
III. Account Administration

The Account Administration Section (accessed by clicking the Acct. Admin button) is for setting permissions, user management, updating contact information and for reviewing your Account's activity log.

III.A. Settings

This section contains basic information about the Account. To turn off access to the Account for non-Admin users, set the Status to Inactive.

For non-limited scope clients who pay the monthly fixed fee, if you do not want to continue with KRF representation after the current period ends then set the Renewal Option to Do Not Renew. You will not be invoiced or otherwise billed unless you have outstanding balances. You will receive a written confirmation of the termination of the KRF Attorney-Client Agreement.

Permission Settings. Each user has a Level and a series of Permissions. Most functions in the Control Panel are associated with a minimum required Level and a particular Permission. If the User has a permission and level equal to or greater than the function then the User can access/use the function.

Account Permissions govern access to Account level functions such as Administration and Support. For Counsel Module permissions, use the Settings screen within the Counsel module. Note, if a user has a Counsel Permission of ZERO (0) then they won't be able to access the Counsel Module.

III.B. Users

This section allows adding/deleting/editing the Users who will have access to the Control Panel. Each user must have a unique E-Mail address. User permissions will govern what functions they can use within the Control Panel. This can be quite complex, so contact KRF if you have questions. Permissions run throughout the Control Panel, and proper settings are important if you allow numerous users to access your Panel.

Points to remember:
  1. In this section, Users can be deleted but Identities cannot. Identities can only be deleted from the My Settings section of the User. So, to remove an e-mail/identity from the system the Identity has to log in and do it themselves. This is because, internally, an Identity can have access to multiple Accounts, although this feature is not yet available to the public.
  2. When creating a user. WRITE DOWN THE PASSWORD. It will be shown at the top of the screen after creating the User. Passwords are automatically generated and hard to remember. The User can change it later.
  3. The Notify checkbox for a User is to identify Users that should be notified of Control Panel downtimes and other technical matters.
  4. E-Mails/Identities can be created from the Control Panel but not changed. The Identity has to log in and change it themselves.
III.C. Contacts

Place contact information for anyone that should be contacted when issues arise for this Account. Up to three contacts can be detailed. Use the "Other Contact Information" form to provide particular details, such as notification instructions, for a contact. For example, if a Contact is only available during certain hours (or months) then please indicate that.

III.D. Billing KRF recommends that you do not place financial information in this section. In general, this section should only be used to place billing contact information. When an invoice needs to be paid, KRF will use address information in this section for notification of the invoice. If there is no contact then the information in the Contacts section will be notified, and then the location of the Client as set in the Settings section will be sed.

III.E. Log

This is a raw listing of activities associate with the Account. It includes the date, User name and action performed. This log is archived on a regular basis so it will not grow forever. All users are included so anyone with access to the log will be able to see what other users have done (as well as KRF) within the Account.
IV. Support Module

The Support Module is a simple mechanism for posting messages for KRF and other users associated with your Account to read and respond. Conversations are organized by Topic and Subject. A topic can have any number of Subjects, and each Subject is a list of messages. Follow these steps to write a Support Message:
  1. Go to Support. Either select one of the View Subjects buttons from the Topic List, or enter a topic and click Add New Topic, and then select to view the Subjects in your new Topic.
  2. If your Topic has Subjects then you can click View Messages for the Subject to which you want to add a Message. Otherwise, enter a Subject Name and click Add New Subject, and then choose to View Messages in your new Subject.
  3. After clicking, View Messages, you will see the list of messages associated with the Subject, if there are any. If not, there will be a notice to indicate there are no messages. At the bottom of the message list will be a text form. You can enter a new message into this text form that will be added to this Subject's Message List.
  4. KRF is automatically notified of all new messages, so there is no need to e-mail or otherwise let KRF know of the new message.
Topics and Subjects may be require certain permission and level requirements so that access is limited.

KRF typically responds to posts, or at least acknowledges reading the post, within the same day they are posted, so posting a question in your Support Module (or within the Counsel Module) is the fastest way for receiving a response from KRF.
